EU says gas supplies from Russia lower than expected
BRUSSELS, Oct 13 (PRIME) -- Gas supplies from Russia to the European Union have been below expectations recently, because Gazprom has only been fulfilling long-term contracts, and offered almost no additional supplies, the European Commission said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Gas supplies from Russia have been below expectations. Although Gazprom met its long-term contracts with the European partners, it offered little to no additional capacity to relieve pressure on the EU gas market,” the authority said.
The European Commission noted that the current increase in electricity prices can be primarily explained by the recent rise in global demand for gas, which is growing rapidly as the economic recovery accelerates.
